Swipe to replay games
Replaying games is a crucial feature, and SmartGo One now makes this easier: simply swipe in the empty area below the board to go forward or backward in a game. More details here: smartgo.blog/2024/04/11/swipe-to-replay/
Improved board annotations
You can now add lines and arrows as well as arbitrary text labels. Tap on Markup in the tools popup, then tap and hold on one of the markup icons to get a popup menu. For text labels, tap and hold on the label icon, then choose between uppercase, lowercase, numbers, or arbitrary labels. (One step closer to be able to create and edit all SGF properties in the app, which seems sort of important since I invented that file format. Not quite there yet.)
Other recent changes
Some highlights from recently added features:
- Better display of current books in Reading Now
- Added tags for books – search for books with problems, books on strategy, or books about joseki, for example. More details in this blog post
- Deleted files are now moved to Trash (Recently Deleted on iOS) so you can retrieve them
- Improved handling of player names in team games
And lots of bug fixes and improvements, some visible, some behind the scenes. The pro game collection now includes over 123,000 games. A reminder that the pro upgrade in SmartGo One is now also available as a one-time unlock for those who don’t like subscriptions.
New books
Two great new books: the second volume of “Trouble Master” by Inseong Hwang, and “Vital Endgame – The shape of Things to Come” by Janice Kim 3 dan (author of the acclaimed Learn to Play Go series). Check them out.
