Marking bad moves
SmartGo One has a new option under Settings > Computer Play: Mark Bad Moves, along with a threshold drop in win rate or score to define a bad move. Two ways you can use this:
While playing against the computer: Get immediate feedback on your moves. Once the computer responds to your move, it will mark your move with a question mark if your score or win rate suddenly dropped. The question mark as well as a red ring around your move will be clearly visible, and you can go back and think about your choice.
During whole game analysis (tap and hold on the Hint button, choose Analyze Game): It will mark all the bad moves in the game. The questionable moves will be clearly visible in the tree view.

I’ve also renamed SmartGo++ to KataGo, as it’s simply using the built-in KataGo engine. Use the other variants of SmartGo to tone KataGo down to give yourself a chance.
Game collections
Game collections now show a thumbnail for the first game in the collection, as well as the count of games and the file type.

Note that you can easily use the context menu to convert between SGF game collections, zipped game collections, and folders full of SGF files.

Holiday sale
Richard Hunter has put two of his excellent books on sale for the holidays: “Counting Liberties and Winning Capturing Races” and “The Monkey Jump”. Each one is half-price ($4.99) until December 28. Get a jump start on your year of go!

Mailing list change
You may have noticed that this email looks a bit different than usual: I've switched the newsletter mailing service from Mailchimp to Buttondown. There should be no need for you to do anything; please let me know if you notice any issues. And while this newsletter is focused on SmartGo, you may also want to subscribe to the Go Books mailing list that focuses on books.
